Where Blues Begins (1998) Her voice can be sexy, sassy and downright sarcastic, she brings a sad edge to the tunes that need that mournful sound. The lady also plays a great lead and slide guitar. This album offers up a range of great music for the blues fan and showcases some of this wonderful blues singer's best work! Rated this album 3/5 well worth a listen. | Soft Place To Fall (2000) IF you like good foot stomping hard driven blues then this is for you. An album full of good music from a lady with a real soulful voice and a fine guitar player too. Deborah Coleman's work is recommended to anyone that likes a good contemporary blues mix. Love some of the rockier sounding tracks my rating 3/5. |

Dirty Deal (2007) Produced by Little Feat's Paul Barrere, has Coco sounding relaxed. Everyone knows he can rock but there's a lot more to Coco, and this great album shows it! He can bring a Texas style shuffle to perfection, and his sustaining guitar also can weep and moan. Maybe his best effort to-date. Good album 3/5 rating. A Man Amounst Men (1996) Produced by the legendary Brit Mike Vernon this record from 1996 features Bo with updated 90s sounds and all-star guests including Keith Richards, Bon Jovi's Richie Sombora and long-time Diddley enthusiast Ron Wood. Bo is also reunited with his old colleagues harp player Billy Boy Arnold and pianist Johnnie Johnson and they give that link to his classic Chess records days and that real blues authenticity. Think Bo Diddley sound and thats exactly what you get with this album, not a bad thing! My rating 3/5. Shoutin' In Key (Live) (2000) Backed by a tight ensemble and blessed with the best and cleanest sound I have ever heard from a live blues recording, Taj Mahal lives up to the promise of the album's title, wringing great energy out of old and new songs, while never resorting to pyrotechnics or volume to compensate for a lack of ideas. On the contrary, each cut on this album is played with fierce originality and freshness. Songs like "Corrina, Corrina," or "Leavin' Trunk" absolutely cook, complemented by fantastic bandwork and swinging, economical solos. (Amazon Review) This is a good live recording, sound and production are excellent. As for the tunes, all 13 tracks are what a live album should be, entertaining and impressive. Deliberated between a three or a four rating! 3/5. http://www.tajblues.com/music.php Paul Butterfield Blues Band (1965) The Butterfield Band's debut album from 1965 was traditional Muddy Waters-style Chicago blues but played with real power and authenticity that was miles ahead of any British band. It's hard to imagine now the impact it made at the time. Butterfield's harp is very much to the fore in many of the tracks and he gets a great thick, dirty wedge of sound that again no British player could get anywhere near. It's very much an ensemble record, played in an uncompromising traditional style and featuring wonderful songs by Elmore James, Little Walter and Junior Parker. (amazon review) Amazing music from the 60s the forerunners of all Blues Rock! Have a couple of Paul Butterfield's albums but this their debut is excellent, a 4/5 rating! Girls Go Wild (1979) Initially was not impressed with this record, must admit after a few plays this is a good blues album, some wonderful harp on a few tracks. My only negative is the vocals, they need to be stronger, rawer & louder! Musically can't fault anything so will give it a 3/5. http://fabulousthunderbirds.com/ Just Won't Burn (1999) Some songs are in the style of Janis Joplin, grinder Blues with great vocals, mellowing to my favourite tracks Looking For Answers & Angel From Montgomery. This is a good album with a mix of styles & tempo, a 4/5 rating. http://www.susantedeschi.com/ http://www.tedeschitrucksband.com/ |
