Roots & Branches (2013) Trower has produced unique cover versions of some classic Blues and R N B tracks such as Hound Dog, The Thrill Has Gone & Little Red Rooster. Of the new album Robin says I started off thinking I would do a complete album of covers, I wanted to get as far away from the originals as possible. I came up with half a dozen arrangements, which felt different enough, so I ended up writing some new songs as well. I have tried to make the new songs be influenced by what I have done with the classics, so the album blends together. The unassuming Robin Trower has, over the forty-odd years since his departure from Procol Harum, assembled an incredible body of work, from his commercial high water mark with the epochal Bridge of Sighs album in 1974, through to the new Roots & Branches. (Amazon) Rate this album at 4.55. My Soul Alone (2013) Have 6 of his records now, as usual Duarte's guitar is brilliant on the solos, but the songs let this album down as there's a bit too much Pop/Texas Blues mix, a few good blues tracks though, the title track My Soul Alone is a class Blues Rock song. Overall not his best work 3.50 rating. Psychedelic Pill (2012) As a Neil Young fan for many years with 48 albums in my catalog, I was hoping for a great new NY record alas this is not it. Must admit I do like this album, but I'm a fan. After playing Psychedelic Pill for the first time I thought I was listening to a compilation of his previous material, it's all so very similar! Going to give this an honest rating of 3.00.
