Having been spoiled with a lot of good Blues lately, listening to this I found myself wanting some tracks to finish as they were just mediocre.
Good Slide Guitar compensates for an over produced with weak songs album, only a 2/5!

Cadillac In The Swamp (1995) This album has been described as Florida-style Blues??? Still led by guitar and great harmonica playing gives that southern feel. Vocals are solid, fine lyrics which incorporates humour along with a dose of social consciousness, mostly it's just fun Blues! My rating 3/5 for a good album, outstanding tracks are American Dream, Crack Smokin' Blues & Cadillac In The Swamp. Living With The Law (1991) This impressive album of bluesy rock has an instrumental mix of guitars, pedal steel, tambourine, keyboards, harmonica and viola. This gives the album an atmospheric southern sound, with Whitley's voice and the quality of the songs make it well worth a listen. A 4/5 rating. http://www.chriswhitley.com/index.php Fourth Corner (2013) The album I got was the import version only 11 tracks compaired to 15 on the UK release. Stunning debut album, superb vocals and mature songs, 4/5 rating. Also added Her EP The Engine adding another six excellent tracks. Played this record a few times now, one of the best female vocalist of recent years, outstanding. http://www.trixiewhitley.com/ Black Dub (2010) Black Dub is the latest project from acclaimed musician and producer Daniel Lanois, vocals from Trixie Whitley. Having just downloaded Trixie Whitley's debut solo album I wanted to hear more. Having a Daniel Lanois album, bought after hearing his production on the Emmylou Harris album Wrecking Ball, I was hopeful, but honestly I'm a bit disappointed with the strength of some songs, vocals are good though. A 3/5 rating. https://www.facebook.com/blackdub http://www.myspace.com/blackdubmusic 180 (2013) Palma Violets are poised to break through courtesy of their incendiary but somewhat unsteady live shows. These ooze the off-the-wall unpredictability of The Libertines, the power of early Clash and an understanding that great music almost always requires great melodies. (Taken from John Aizewood's BBC review). Eleven Indie Rock tracks, alas no classics, 2/5. http://www.palmaviolets.co.uk/ Become The Sun (2013) Classed as Doom/Psychedelic/Stoner/Desert Rock gives you an idea of what sound this album is about. Heavy guitar sound really well done! After a lot of Blues lately I needed to get some loud heavy riffs, this album fits the bill perfectly! Good record a 4/5 rating. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Egypt-Doom/220951734668136 http://www.myspace.com/egyptdoom
Keb' Mo' (1994) Every few years, an acoustic guitar player decides he wants to be the next Robert Johnson and endears himself to the blues world. Veteran backup guitarist Kevin "Keb' Mo'" Moore has the freshest approach to pulling it off, turning Johnson's devil-obsessed classics "Come on in My Kitchen" and "Kindhearted Woman Blues" into friendly folk music on this 1994 debut. Unlike many of the great bluesmen, the personable Moore doesn't aspire to be evil or even rebellious; he writes terrific songs (most notably the opening "Every Morning" and "Dirty Low Down and Bad") and performs them with talent and charisma. --Steve Knopper 4/5 rating. |
