No Foolin' (1993) Superb axe playing, has live sessions and studio tracks, all good. Tight solid blues rock band, worth a 3.75 rating. Cons nowt original, Pros excellent musicians. Worth a play now and then.
I'm A King Bee (1993) Born 1924 died 1970, James Isaac Moore performed as Slim Harpo. 24 songs of historic Louisiana " Swamp Blues", gives the listener a journey back in time. Enjoyable throughout, unique voice and fine tunes rewards this record with a 4.00 rating.
Open The Cage (2007) Live rock from a newbie to me, solid playing let down by the inferior recording and production mix. The drums are overpowering over the rest of the band, nothing original, just a good live act that doesn't really work when recorded. Rating 3.00.
Hello Cruel World (2012) Recently discovered Gretchen Peters with her 2015 Blackbirds release, wow factor! Downloaded an early album - The Secret Life (1996) and now Hello Cruel World from 2012. The album has many great moments, my fave was Idlewild - amazing song! Now a dedicated fan. My rating - 4.50.
Tough Dude (1971) Main name with Bacon Fat was Rod Piazza, an ace harp player and singer, went on to bigger things with The Mighty Flyers 1980 to date. Loving the simplicity of 70's blues, with no overdubs or crap harmonies, just the energy & sound of a live performance. Enjoyed all 12 retro tracks, highlights for me were Betty, Blues Feeling, Transatlantic Blues & Hurrikane. Will be checking more of Piazza's catalogue. Rating is a solid 4.00 of old school R&B, worth many more plays.
